Weekend Reading: Special Crimes Unit Series

This week, I was very busy with editing Intimate Healing. When I started editing, I just wanted to get it over with. I no longer loved the story. But as I got to reread it, I fell in love with it all over again. You know that feeling you get after reading a great book? Well, that’s how I feel. I don’t think Intimate Healing is great, but I love it anyways, and hopefully other people will too.

Earlier this week, I posted about cross-genre writing. One of my favorite authors falls into that category. Author Kay Hooper writes romantic suspense. However, unlike most romantic suspense novels that concentrate on a mystery and a romantic relationship, this one actually has quite a catch to it. It has supernatural elements.

I love her SCU series, which consists of twelve books so far, all of them broken down into four trilogies. Although all of the books have a different set of main characters, the supporting cast is usually the same.

In small towns all over the US, killers stalk. When regular police or FBI can’t solve the case, they call the “Special Crimes Unit”. Why? Because they’re special… Supernaturally special. The unit is made up of physic, seers, clairvoyants, and the occasional ghost helps solve the case too.

At the core of the stories, there is always a great love story and a thrilling mystery. They are not books you should read at night. I learned that lesson the hard way.

Here are all the titles on the series:

Stealing Shadows
Hiding in the Shadows
Out of the Shadows
Touching Evil
Whisper of Evil
Sense of Evil
Hunting Fear
Chill of Fear
Sleeping with Fear
Blood Dreams
Blood Sins
Blood Ties

So, what are you all going to be doing or reading this weekend?
