A Tibetan Food Affair

Being a non-vegetarian I was always in awe of Tibetan cuisine as they have a lot of non vegetarian dishes. So when I went to visit the Norbulingka Institute at Dharamsala I asked the locals for a good Tibetan restaurant. They suggested that I visit the Taste of Tibet restaurant. The entrance was beautiful with flowers arranged.
The place was almost full but we managed to get a table for ourselves. Most of the monks from Norbulingka come here for their lunch. It took us quite some time to go through the menu as it had items like Shapta, Gyathuk, Petse etc. which took us some time to figure. We initially started off by ordering the mutton momos that are popular in Dharamsala.
The momos were served in a quaint box with the momo sauce. These were rich in mutton fat and every bite had succulent juices dripping from them.
After that we ordered the Mutton Shapta. The Shapta is the Tibetan stir fried meat that can be cooked with a variety of different meats such as yak, chicken, pork etc.
To go along with this we ordered the Tibetan Fried rice. Together with the Shapta this really tasted good. The quantity was also wholesome and enough for two people.
Overall: Definitely visit this place if you are at the Norbulingka Institute at Dharamsala. There are quite a few cafes inside the Norbulingka Institute as well as outside it but make sure you visit this one. It is near the BoB ATM.
