Shakur Stevenson was separated from Jamel Herring after taunting the WBO super featherweight champion at the weigh-in for this weekend’s bout.
The undefeated 24-year-old tried again to grab the WBO belt from Herring and then said a few farewell words before sharing the ring early Sunday morning, live on Sky Sports.
Stevenson, who is aiming to become champion in a second division, weighed at the limit of 130 pounds, while Herring came in slightly lighter at 129.8 pounds ahead of the fourth defense of his WBO belt.
Herring had previously trained in the same gym as Stevenson, although their rivalry flared up during the fight week.
“He’s not my friend. I don’t talk to him outside of boxing,” Stevenson said at the press conference.
“If he makes a mistake and makes some mistakes, I will exploit the capital.
“You’re going to see a special night: my going out party. Did he say he ruined it? So let’s see.”
Herring replied, “It’s not personal. I’ve heard worse and been through worse.
“We will put aside our personal feelings and go to battle.”
In the undercard, Muhammad Ali’s grandson Nico Ali Walsh will aim for his second win as a pro against James Westley II.
Xander Zayas also returns to action as the undefeated 19-year-old seeks his 11th straight win over Dan Karpency.
Watch Jamel Herring vs Shakur Stevenson, live on Sky Sports from 3.30am Sunday morning.
